Whimsy Winkel
Whimsy Winkel is the perfect name for my shop because I love cute, happy, playful designs and I’m a dreamer. I also really like the alliteration Whimsy Winkel. What is a “winkel” you may ask? Well, it’s Dutch for shop or store. I lived in the Netherlands for 10 years and birthed all 4 of my children there. My art is very much influenced by the nature I saw in Holland, and by children’s illustrators Dick Bruna and Fiep Westendorp. My creations are influenced by anime, cartoons, children’s book illustrations, and other crochet designers. I create fun playful designs that bring the buyer a sense of nostalgia, imagination and joy. Some of my patterns are my own, but many are from other artists, and are noted as such on each item.
A note about the dolls: all are hand made in very small batches. Therefore, each is unique and one of a kind. No two are exactly alike. Different batches of yarn are used so the colors, yarn, and everything varies but I will try to make each one as similar to the original pictured. If the eyes are hand stitched then there is no need to worry about plastic buttons falling off. If the item has plastic safety eyes, then it’s not recommended for use by children under 3 years old. I usually work with a cotton blend yarn and poly filling for the insides. I recommend gently hand washing but they could go in the wash on a cold water delicate cycle. Air Dry.
